Why is the Bible Important?
For many today the Bible has lost the importance that it once had. I past times most respected the Bible even if they weren’t obedient to it. Somewhere along the time span of man he has turned from God and to himself to the point where we are today. We need to teach the importance of the Bible. We need to teach that all need to hear what it has to say because it is relevant and contains the direction that man needs.
Gen. 1:1 – In the beginning God created…
As controversial as this statement is, we must teach this as completely accurate and the beginning of the knowledge of God.
From here we can go in all kinds of directions. One direction we should establish is that this is God’s revelation to man.
Deut. 29:29 – things revealed belong to man
1 Cor. 2:9-13 – revealed to man though the Spirit
Eph. 3:2-6 – the mystery revealed
The Bible is known by several names.
Scriptures – Rom. 15:4, 2 Tim. 3:16-17, 2 Peter 2:16
Oracles – 1 Peter 4:11
Word of God – Heb. 4:12, Matt. 4:4
Truth – John 1:14, 17, John 17:17, John 1:1, 14, John 8:32, John 14:6, John 12:49-50
It is inspired by the Holy Spirit
Heb. 1:1-2 – God speaks to us through His Son
John 16:12-13 – the Holy Spirit guided into all truth
2 Peter 1:20-21 – prophecy came from Holy Spirit
The revelation is complete.
1 Cor. 13:8-10 – At some point the miracles will not be needed.
Jude 3 – once for all delivered
James 1:25 – the perfect law of liberty
2 Tim. 3:16-17 – that we can be equipped
Rev. 22:18-19 – We cannot change God’s word
We must be able to teach the basics of the word of God so that others will be able to understand salvation as offered through Jesus.
